Summer is a sunny and colorful season, perfect for wearing beautiful hair on a beach trip to show off our beauty. However, for those of us who wear wigs, this is also the most challenging season. High temperatures, sweat, humidity, and strong sunlight can easily make hair frizzy, oily, tangled, and even fall out.
If you want to avoid these problems, don't worry. Here I will share some practical and simple wig care tips for summer, especially suitable for human hair wigs. These tips will keep your hair fresh, dry, and natural.
1. Lightweight Protection
Humid air is a major enemy that human hair needs to fight. It makes hair frizzy and messy, ruining our hairstyles. Furthermore, in summer, applying hair oil and cream can make wigs look greasy and sticky, so we need to use some lightweight protective products.
Before going out, simply spray a small amount of moisturizing sunscreen spray on your hair. This will create a protective film on the hair surface, protecting the proteins in your hair and retaining moisture to prevent dryness caused by strong sunlight.
When conditioning your hair, try to use a lightweight spray instead of a heavy conditioner. When using hair oil, apply it to the ends of your hair, avoiding the roots. This will keep your human hair wigs silky and non-greasy.
2. Proper Washing and Conditioning
We tend to sweat easily in the hot summer weather. Thus, for those of us who wear wig, especially the HD frontal wig, wig care becomes crucial as sweat and dust easily accumulate on our wig.
In summer, our wig becomes oily due to sweat and exercise, and it's also more prone to bacterial growth that can damage the hair protein, leading to tangles and breakage. We need to be mindful of the frequency of hair washing and conditioning in the summer. We recommend washing your wig about once/twice a week.
There are also some tips for washing and conditioning:
1. Use cold or lukewarm water when washing and conditioning your wig. This helps close the hair cuticles, locking in moisture and maintaining shine.
2. Use gentle shampoos and conditioners, applying them only to the hair shaft, and avoiding the roots.
3. Do not rub your hair vigorously while washing. Many people, especially those with long wigs, tend to rub it vigorously, however, this improper practice can cause tangling and hair loss, thereby shortening the lifespan of the hair. The correct approach is letting the wig soak for about ten minutes, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, and then hang it to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated place.
3. Proper Drying and Storage are Crucial
Many women's wigs - especially colored hair wigs - become frizzy and tangled in summer due to improper drying!
After washing, never expose the wig to direct sunlight—strong ultraviolet rays will dry out real hair, cause fading, and make it rough and brittle. Place the wig on a professional wig rack and let it air dry naturally in a cool, well-ventilated place. This will maintain the wig's original shape and elasticity and prevent mold growth in humid weather. For daily storage, do not simply toss the wig on a table or in your bag. When not wearing it, secure it to a wig rack to prevent tangling, dust accumulation, and deformation.
4. Combing Tips and Summer Daily Styling
Summer is a time of increased sweating and humidity, making wigs prone to tangling. When combing wig, use a wide-tooth comb, starting from the ends. Once the ends are detangled, gently comb upwards. This reduces hair loss caused by vigorous combing.
We recommend simple-style wigs in summer. Wearing your hair down in summer can be very hot, so creating a suitable hairstyle is important. You might want to use a 360 lace wig. This way, you can style it however you like. You can tie it in a high ponytail or put it up in a bun. Additionally, the larger lace area offers better breathability, making it much more comfortable to wear during the summer. You can also choose a bob lace wig, as this helps reduce friction between your hair and your back, thus reducing sweat production.
Summer wig care is not complicated! With proper ventilation, anti-humidity protection, regular gentle cleaning, and correct storage, your real human hair wig can stay silky, shiny, and natural all summer long. No more frizzy, greasy, or dull wigs—you can keep gorgeous hairstyles while beating the summer heat!
